Participate in this three-part, hands-on learning experience to enhance your understanding of Web-based Virtual Reality Worlds. Virtual reality worlds, computer games, simulations, and animations can be powerful learning tools for active, engaged learning offering visually rich, hands-on experiences, trial and error activities, and virtual participation in historical events.

Part I: VRW Introduction – May 8 – 14
The introduction to VRW is offered in an asynchronous format allowing you to investigate the various learning resources throughout the WebCT course space and comment and respond to fellow participants when it's most convenient for you. You will explore the various worlds available today, review research on VRW and student learning, and critique current VRW projects and applications.
Time commitment: 8 hours

Part II: Experience Active Worlds – May 16 or May 17
Participants will meet virtually at a pre-established time to experience a live VRW session where they will explore, deconstruct, and construct 3-D dwellings and concepts in their private VRW space.
Time commitment: 1 hour

Part III: VRW Wrap-up – May 23 or May 25
The same participants who worked together in Part II will reconvene at a pre-established time and critique the environment and fellow participants' ideas for future projects and discuss possible collaborative next steps.
Time commitment: 1 hour

 
Instructor:
Dr. David Cillay is the Director of Instructional Development and Technology at Washington State University, Center for Distance and Professional Education. He holds an Affiliate Faculty appointment in the College of Education. His area of expertise is utilizing technology to enhance student learning, primarily the facilitation of interaction. In his role at WSU, he provides pedagogical consultation and implementation to enhance teaching and learning in distance learning environments. He also coordinates and teaches in a graduate certificate program in Instructional Design. Prior to his move back to WSU, Cillay served as the Senior Instructional Designer at the University of Idaho. Who should attend:
